Gender Alliance of the South Sound

The Rainbow Center is not just an ally and partner to the Gender Alliance of the South Sound; it is, in a real sense, the rock of its existence. Association with the Rainbow Center has lent stability, security, legitimacy, and the all-important sense of inclusion within the greater local LGBTQ community. This inclusion and interaction has helped in no small measure to define and hone GASS’s organizational direction. With acquaintances, associates and real friends within the Rainbow Center family we feel both supported and the need to support such others. The members of GASS are well aware of this associative bond, this larger movement of “our” people, and we know this assists in the re-building of their self-esteem and faith in the world.

Yet our main constituents are our own members, many of whom are just beginning a long and arduous journey of self-discovery and self-creation. This journey often involves pain and loss, sometimes crushing in its scope. The secure and friendly space of the Rainbow Center, and the smiling faces always encountered there, are incredibly important for our members. The RC represents a little sanctuary of safety, community, acceptance, respect and hope to the members of GASS. And none of those are small things.
